Dwarves: 'Come Clean' - Like so many of the covers on this countdown, 'Come Clean' plays on the sexual fantasies of the red blooded male - this time it is the wet body of a naked lady and we have.

Blood Guts & Pussy is a 1990 album by the Dwarves. It was their first album for Sub Pop, and the album's sleeve was the subject of controversy, receiving protests from feminists.[1] Dwarves frontman Blag The Ripper asserts that the Blood Guts & Pussy classic 'Drug Store' is one of his favourite songs to play live, and that it is frequently requested during live sets.[2]

Allmusic[3]

The album received a 4.5/5 rating from Allmusic's Matt Carlson, who commented on the album's 'explicit exploitation and genuinely disgusting humor', and described it as 'thirteen songs full of general punk sloppiness and distortion performed in 14 minutes'.[3] David Sprague of Trouser Press described the album as 'tight and musicianly'.[4] It was voted 'most offensive album ever made' in SPIN.[5]

Both commented on the album's sleeve, which was described as 'equally disgusting' as the album title,[1] featuring a photograph by Michael Lavine of three nude models covered in animal blood,[6] which Sprague saw as designed for 'calculated offence'.[4] The sleeve art was referenced on the 2000 album Come Clean, which was similar, but with the blood replaced with soap.[1] Jason Heller of The A.V. Club later called it 'one of the most unforgettable album covers of the decade..It was an acidic, idiotic reminder that punk could still shock and offend (and flat-out fucking rock).'[7]

Short of, it would be hard to name a punk rock band that went further to establish a bad reputation than. Playing deliberately crude, high-speed punk rock dripping with bad attitude, - led by vocalist and guitarist He Who Cannot Be Named - matched their music with lyrics that celebrated all sorts of bad behavior, and their album covers almost invariably featured full-frontal nudity. Add in the band's live shows, which often lasted less than 20 minutes and occasionally included a physical assault on the audience, and you have a recipe for infamy, which rode to a lasting cult following via incendiary albums like (1990), (1991), and (2004). The Dwarves began in Chicago as a teen garage rock outfit called, and the garage/psych sound was partially carried over into the first release, 1986's. After the first album, relocated to San Francisco and evolved into a faster and sleazier punk rock outfit, as documented on the 1988 EP. In 1990, signed with Sub Pop Records and released their most notorious album, a ten-song, 13-minute assault packaged in a sleeve that featured two naked women covered in blood and a nude dwarf covering his midsection with a rabbit.

Became the talk of the underground music press, and blazed across the country on tour, leaving a trail of blood from their own self-inflicted gashes, a bagful of drug stories (according to popular myth, bassist disappeared in Detroit on a crack binge during a 1992 tour in support of 1991's equally seedy, never to be heard from again), a litany of bizarre stage-show sex acts, and the wreckage of numerous 15-minute-long live shows. The unsurprisingly self-destructed shortly after a failed hoax; shortly before the release of the 1993 album, the band issued a press release stating that guitarist He Who Cannot Be Named had died. Also carried a tribute to the guitarist, who in truth was very much alive. Sub Pop was not amused when they learned the facts and dropped the band, which soon went on hiatus. But re-formed for 1997's, and Epitaph Records signed the band in time for 2000's.

Four years later, the band returned with, which included guests from, from, from, and voice actor. In 2009 the band began to work on a new album, this time recruiting past members of the band like and to play on the album instead of an all-star celebrity cast, and released in 2010. The year 2011 brought the EP, and in 2014 the troublemakers returned with the album. The band moved to Burger Records for the release of their tenth full-length effort, 2018's.
